Lal Peda
About Lal Peda
Lal Peda is Varanasi's answer to the classic milk sweet — khoya, slow-cooked over a low flame until it takes on its signature deep red-caramel colour, then hand-shaped and finished with a touch of cardamom. It's one of the oldest recipes in our kitchen, and still our most-reordered Banarasi sweet.
How It's Made
We start with fresh full-cream milk, reduced slowly in small batches until it thickens into khoya. The mixture is then cooked further with sugar until it reaches its characteristic reddish-brown hue — a process that takes patience and can't be rushed. Each peda is shaped by hand before packing.
Customer Reviews
Tastes exactly like the peda we used to get in Varanasi as kids. Not overly sweet, and the texture is spot on. Ordered a second box within the week.
Ordered for a family function, arrived well packed and fresh. Everyone asked where I got it from. Will reorder for Diwali.
Good taste, slightly sweeter than I expected but still very good quality. Delivery was quick, within 3 days.
