# Sankatmochan Besan Laddoo – Traditional Varanasi Sweet

Sankatmochan Besan Laddoo is a traditional Indian mithai known for its rich roasted flavour, rustic grainy texture, and gentle sweetness. Prepared with coarse-ground besan, pure desi ghee and crystalline boora sugar, these laddoos are slowly roasted to develop a deep golden colour and a delicious nutty aroma.

Enjoy the traditional taste of Sankatmochan Besan Laddoo from Shri Annapurna Sweets. Made with just three ingredients, this classic sweet is a delightful choice for festive celebrations, family gatherings, gifting or enjoying after meals.

### **About Sankatmochan Besan Laddoo**

In Banaras, besan ka laddoo is not a dessert so much as a habit of faith. Every Tuesday the lanes leading to Sankat Mochan fill with people carrying it, and generations have grown up knowing exactly what that laddoo should taste like — coarse, deeply roasted, more ghee than sugar, wrapped in newspaper and still warm at the edges. That is the laddoo we make. It is not the smooth, pale, sugary version sold across most of India; ours is the Banarasi one, grainy on the tongue, dark with a long bhunai, and restrained enough that you can eat a second one without regret. We named it for the temple because that is the standard our customers hold it to.

### **How It's Made**

Everything rests on the bhunai. We use mota besan — coarse-ground gram flour, never the fine kind — because it is what gives the laddoo its rustic, sandy bite. It goes into a heavy kadhai with pure desi ghee and is stirred continuously on the lowest flame for well over half an hour, until the pale yellow turns a deep honey-brown and the kitchen fills with that unmistakable roasted-besan aroma. There is no shortcut here; rush it and the laddoo tastes raw, overdo it and it turns bitter. The mixture is then cooled to just warm before boora sugar and green cardamom are folded in — sugar added to hot besan melts and makes the laddoo hard, so we wait. Each one is pressed and rolled by hand, studded with almond and magaz, and left to set before packing.

###  **Ingredients**

•      Mota besan (coarse-ground gram flour)

•      100% pure desi ghee

•      Boora sugar

•      Green cardamom

•      Almond slivers

•      Magaz (melon seeds)

Contains: Milk (ghee), tree nuts. Made in a facility that also processes other tree nuts and wheat.

###  **Storage Instructions**

Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight — besan laddoo does not need refrigeration, and chilling it only hardens the ghee and dulls the aroma. If it has been kept cold, bring it back to room temperature for twenty minutes before serving. Consume within the shelf life mentioned on the pack, and always use a dry spoon or clean hands.
